FAQs

What is the CIMSPA exercise and fitness directory?

The directory displays qualified exercise and fitness professionals who are recognised by, and members of, the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.

Directory members include qualified and recognised fitness instructors, personal trainers, pilates instructors and group exercise leaders.

How can I get on the directory?

A listing on the directory is an exclusive benefit for two CIMSPA membership categories:
  • CIMSPA affiliate (exercise and fitness)
  • CIMSPA practitioner (exercise and fitness)
Both memberships cost just £30 per year (inc VAT), and are the first steps on the pathway CIMSPA is developing to encourage exercise and fitness professionals to gain chartered status.

CIMSPA members can also now access Instructor Public and Teacher Liability £10m insurance, provided through FitPro (underwritten by Aviva).

Why has the sector’s chartered institute created the directory?

CIMSPA is responding to the concerns of sector employers who have been frustrated by the variable quality of fitness staff “accredited” by other registers, and have looked to CIMSPA to provide an alternative.

As the strategic lead for professional development in sport, fitness and physical activity, the directory also realises CIMSPA’s goal of creating a single “competency to practice” register in the sector, with the quality of its members guaranteed by ensuring they both hold recognised qualifications delivered by CIMSPA-endorsed training providers, and have maintained their competency through approved CPD.

My location isn’t exact – why is this?

Map locations on the directory are generalised to postcode area (typically a town or suburb) only, rather than exact postcode. So, LE11 3QF, is generalised to the postcode area LE11.
